School Council

The School Council was set up in January 2003. The children in Key Stage 2 all met with a local councillor and were given an insight into what councils were and how business was conducted. The most important part of this discussion dealt with the election process and this set the scene for our own school council elections.

First of all, each Key Stage 2 class was paired with a Key Stage 1 class and then children were invited to put themselves forward as representatives for their own class or of their partner class. They then had time to prepare speeches and then delivered them to the classes. Elections were then held and the councillors chosen.

The council is made up of six councillors. They meet with the head teacher approximately every fortnight and in the intervening weeks they hold discussions with their class so that decisions can be made. They have organised a Blue Peter Bring and Buy Sale, agreed dining hall rules and written a school prayer. They monitor the tidiness of the school and nominate children who have been polite and kind for awards.

They are also thinking about having more fund raising opportunities to buy more classroom games for wet playtimes.
