Languages
Intent
At Langmoor, we offer a curriculum that inspires curiosity and deepens pupil’s understanding of different cultures. The teaching should inspire and excite our pupils to continue studying languages beyond key stage 2. It ensures that the four key language learning skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing will be taught and all necessary grammar will be covered in an age-appropriate way across Key Stage 2.
Impact
In order to support our feeder Secondary Schools, we offer both French and Spanish as languages covered. To ensure that pupils are continuously building on their previous knowledge, French is taught in years 3,4 and 5. While Spanish is introduced to year 6, to give pupils an introduction to the languages offered later in their school careers. This will help pupils decide what language they would like to study at secondary school and will offer a foundation for which they can build upon.
Implementation
As a school, we follow the Language Angels programme of study for years 3, 4 and 5, while year 6 will follow Lightbulb Languages. These programmes of study allow children to progressively develop their skills in foreign languages in regularly taught lessons, which will be taught by their class teacher.
